GHD Advert

The women in this advert is the centre of it all, she has been spot lit to show this. She is wearing a a dress and lace up shoes both in the colour red. The colour red connotes that she could either be dangerous or passionate and both would seem to fit with the atmosphere of the advert. The dress is rather revealing suggesting she isn’t all that innocent. The woman is looking down on the men who are knelt before her, this connotes her superiority. That the men want to praise her and they believe she is better than them; they don’t deserve to be in her presence.
The men in the picture are wearing skull and cross bone t-shirts this could denote pirates as it is a well-known pirate flag symbol but it could connote that they are evil or are of bad intent. The advert could have religious connotations such as that the men and the grunge background are hell and that she has either come down from heaven or has become a fallen angel because of the use of the products being advertised. This could lead to believe that the men are asking for redemption, though her face connotes that she really isn’t interested in them at all.
The text tells us that she is an “urban angel” this connotes that GHD products can make any woman look as angelic as she does, it also says “confident, and wonderous to behold” this tells us that the men find her “wonderous” and the use of the word behold gives it a more fairytale/biblical feel to it.
The Cherubs holding what looks to be a halo backs up the connotations about the woman being angelic, the cherubs following her around holding the halo could connote that she is particularly beautiful, people want to follow her.
More religious connotations could include that the three men knelt before her are the three wise men that are on their way to find the baby Jesus, it could connote that she is leading them astray with her beauty and that they are unable to stop themselves. The advert tell us that GHD is a “new religion” this could connote that she is an all new power in her own right, she has no rules to follow and will create her own because she can. She doesn’t need men to tell her what to do which is represented with them praising her, she just needs confidence and the right hair products and she can do anything.

I ran out of things to say
