Vaughn had difficult time casting the part of the main character ‘David
Lizewski’ he was even getting ready to push the film back 6 months in order to
fill the part with a suitable actor. Vaughn was at first adamant that the main
role wasn’t going to be filled by a British actor, he said “I was paranoid – as
a British filmmaker shooting this in England with a British cast, we would do a
Dick van Dyke in reverse,” laughs Vaughn. “But the problem is that these guys
were screen-testing, and they could do the geeky guy, but the scenes with
emotion and heart? There would be nothing.” Vaughn was eventually encouraged to
watch the tape of Aaron Johnson, which Vaughn had initially turned down on
account of him being British.
First paragraph. Am I still too chatty?
A bit, but I'd rather you wrote in a style which I can fix than write nothing at all.
